STRUCTURE OF INTELLECT PROGRAM
SOI Philosophy All students have intellectual abilities that they can enhance. The late Dr. Mary Meeker stated that the key to understanding intelligence is to recognize that it is not how much, but rather what kind of intelligence is present. If this is true, then every student can benefit from a comprehensive assessment and follow-up concerning strengths and weaknesses in the many areas of cognitive functioning. And SOI can contribute to the academic success of every student.
Abilities: The Building Blocks of Learning and Effectiveness No matter what educational goals are in place, it is important to realize that student success will be dependent upon their abilities to process information in various forms and complexities. This means that each student needs to possess the abilities to do the following:
* Understand what is being seen and heard * Remember and retrieve what is understood * Make decisions based upon what is understood * Solve problems based upon what is understood * Create new solutions for current situations
These abilities are the bedrock upon which you add the knowledge and skills that are taught to each child.
The SOI Design is Simple:
1. Identify the abilities required for the learning of reading, arithmetic, and math in addition to requirments for any given job. 2. Test for those abilities 3. Teach abilities that are low, maintain those that are gifted, and develop further any that are average.
In addition to providing direction in SOI follow-up training, Family Learning Services provides curriculum suggestions for the student's school program.
